UNNATURAL SHOCK THAT FLESH IS HEIR TO OF THE DAY: (Only 870 left until we reach our glorious goal of 1000!).
The spectacle of Roger Federer almost losing and then elated to ultimately win a 4th round match at the U.S. Open.
RNC COMMENT OF THE DAY:
Watched about 10 minutes of the Republican National Convention. About 8 minutes of what I watched was taken up by a well produced video tribute to a guy named Michael Monsor--a soldier who had died heroically in the Iraq War. His actions were no doubt truly heroic and his death truly tragic. But it felt sadly fitting to see that the Republican Party would shamelessly politicize a soldier's death after this Republican administration has famously failed to acknowledge the deaths of soldiers throughout the last 5 years. Patriotism made partisan. Truly galling. Truly more of the same.
BRILLIANT RHETORICAL MANEUVER OF THE DAY:
Joe Biden was asked how he felt about Republican operative Karl Rove calling him a “big blowhard doofus” at an event in Minneapolis Monday. Biden grinned and said “He’s a great American.”
QUOTE OF THE DAY:
"George H. W. Bush was born on third base and thought he hit a triple. George W. Bush was born on third base and stole second."
-Ted Strickland, Governor or Ohio (I was reminded of this quote by David Remnick's Comment in this week's New Yorker.)
SPORTS RESEMBLANCE OF THE DAY:
Fernando Gonzalez (Tennis Player) and John Stamos.
