MORNING QUICKIE:

McCain got a huge bump on intrade this morning. He's up 7% and it's now a horse race (McCain trading at 46+% and Obama now down to 55-%). Well, I guess America bought the idea of a Republican running as a maverick against his own party. And against the very policies he's whole-heartedly endorsed. A sucker (or is it a racist?) is born every second. Interestingly, the chances of a U.S./Israeli air strike over Iran shot up commensurately on intrade: Up 5 points to 25%.

As for tennis: Roddick had an off night serving. I'm still convinced if he'd served the way he had been in the previous 4 matches, he would have won. That said, Djokovic looks formidable once again. While I'm pulling hard for the Poetry Man (aka Roger), I'd have to give Novak the edge. He beat him at the Australian and he should have beaten him at the Open last year but choked. Add to that the fact that Roger is not moving or playing as well as he was a year ago and you have to give the Serb the edge. I'd be slightly surprised but extremely delighted if Federer wins. As for the other semi: Murray has looked pretty impressive, but it'd be hard to pick against Nadal.

Ok, Time to do the day thing.

On my lunch break today (while not watching the men's doubles final), I caught a bit of the GILF and Grampy show from Wisconsin. As poised as she was in her convention speech, this time she was equally halting reading the speech on the lectern in front of her. I wouldn't make too much of either, though. If she can handle what will get thrown at her once she starts accepting interviews--i.e., she doesn't come off as a hyper-defensive ignoramus--then it'll be time to worry a little that some vitality will rub off on Grampy.
